Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow!

By Randy Wilson
JSU News Bureau

The Jacksonville State University Alumni Association is accepting applications for membership in the Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (STAT) chapter of the Alumni Association.

Membership is open to all undergraduate students at JSU. However, membership is limited to 30 students. STAT currently has 18 applications. The deadline for submitting an application for membership is 16 September 2005.

Students selected for membership will become a member of the inaugural group. As a member of the STAT club, students will become a part of a network of more than 40,000 JSU alumni.

The STAT club's mission is to educate students on the importance of maintaining relationships while operating under JSU's national alumni association.

Underclassmen will be assigned an upperclassmen mentor to help acclimate them to the college life, and upperclassmen will be assigned an alumni mentor to assist graduates as they enter the workforce.

The STAT club will receive exposure to "real life" experiences not learned in the classroom, such as resume building, job interview skills, and dining etiquette. Members will also learn about the importance of community service and volunteerism.

"One of the club's primary goals is to help members develop a network," said Alan Renfroe, assistant director of JSU's alumni association. "When they graduate, they will be able to step right into a job."

Applications may be picked up at the Alumni House. For more information, call the alumni association at (256) 782-5404 or send e-mail to alumni@jsu.edu.
