A Quarter 'n' Up: SGA's Hurricane
Relief Effort Begins Tonight

The Student Government Association announced a relief effort today called A Quarter 'n' Up to collect quarters and other spare change to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Coins will be collected beginning at tonight's football game (7 p.m., Snow Stadium), and collections will continue at other games and campus events of all kinds through October 1. SGA senators and others will be on hand with specially marked collection containers. Fans will have opportunities to contribute as they enter the stadium and throughout the game.

If only 5,000 students each gave two quarters, the SGA would be able to raise $2,500 for the project.

The SGA is working to establish other collection points around campus as well. Donations may be made anywhere you see the special container or an SGA representative. Students and employees may also drop by the SGA office, Room 402 Montgomery Building, to make donations directly.

SGA President Mardracus Russell said funds will be turned over to the American Red Cross and earmarked for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

The SGA is planning further projects, including a collection point for specific relief items such as food and supplies.

In addition to these efforts, the Anniston Star and SGA will be collecting items at tonight's game for delivery to victims. See related story at www.jsu.edu/news.
