United Way Recognizes
JSU's Day of Caring Work Project

United Way of Calhoun County presented Joe Whitmore, Jacksonville State University's director of Special Services, the Kitchin's Caring Hand Award Tuesday in recognition of JSU's support for the United Way Day of Caring project held on August 12.

Twenty-four JSU employees and two resident assistants cleaned, painted, and performed general repairs and maintenance at the Interfaith Center for Concern in Anniston.

"The award is really in honor of the 26 who came out and engaged in work for a worthy cause," Whitmore said.

The Center of Concern provides relief to needy individuals and families in Anniston and Calhoun County.

Whitmore, who has assisted United Way for the past 17 years, including the past 12 years as a JSU employee, served as JSU's Day of Caring project coordinator.

The award was presented during the United Way's annual campaign kickoff luncheon Tuesday at the Anniston city meeting center. The fund-raising campaign runs from September to October each year, and JSU has established a goal of $5 per month from each employee.
