Grant to Help Calhoun County Start Fiber-optic School Network

A $100,000 federal grant has been awarded to the effort in Calhoun County, matched with $100,000 from two local high schools and two institutes of higher education, to pool the $200,000 necessary to lay fiber-optic cable and buy equipment needed to start “virtually” connecting students. The money will be used to connect Jacksonville State University with Jacksonville High School. Gadsden State Community College will connect to Oxford High School.
