Ted Propes, JSU Benefactor


Ted Propes

Ted Propes, the Jacksonville State University benefactor who funded an endowed professorship in the College of Commerce and Business Administration, began his career in the investment field more than 30 years ago with the E.F. Hutton Company, eventually becoming a first vice president in capital markets and investment management.

Propes is listed in the Who’s Who of International Business Leaders and is chairman and chief investment officer for Consolidated Capital Management, an investment management and consulting firm based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Propes earned a Bachelor of Science in economics and finance from JSU and a Master of Business Administration in finance from the University of Alabama. He conducted advanced professional studies at the American College of Pennsylvania and the College for Financial Planning and Portfolio Management at the New York Institute of Finance.

Reflecting his dedication to civic responsibility and a value for higher education, Propes serves as president of Jacksonville State University Foundation board of directors and chairman of the investment advisory board that governs the institution’s multi-million dollar foundation endowments.

He is a charter trustee of the Savannah College of Art and Design, where he has served as vice chairman of the board of trustees, president of the executive committee, and chairman of the investment advisory committee.  The University’s 200,000 square foot business and administration building is named in his honor for the financial leadership that provided to the institution over the past 20 years.

Propes served as president in 2002-2003 for the Atlanta/Vinings Rotary Club.  Under his leadership, the club for the first time was a recipient of the Al Daniels Award, Best All Around Club, Sherfield Presidents Cup, Best Club Service, and Best Polio Plus Program.  Propes is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a contributing Paul Harris Society member, and a Will Watt Fellow.   He is a current assistant governor for Rotary District 6900.

A native of Calhoun County, Propes and his family enjoy spending time at their cattle farm and home in Jacksonville. They also maintain a residence in Marietta, Ga., where he has been active in community and civic affairs.  Propes was selected as Businessman of the Year for his work on the Business and Economic Advisory Council.
