Live Web Streaming Allows Family to Share Graduation Moment

20 December, 2004 — Family and friends were able to view the graduation ceremonies Saturday, December 18, live from their home computers through LIVE web streaming hosted by Event Connection. Following the December 18, 2004 Graduation exercises, the video will be archived on Event Connection's servers for On-Demand viewing until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 27, 2004. After on-demand hosting expires, the streaming media will no longer be available. Through a link available on the JSU website, the graduation ceremonies will be archived for one week after commencement.

Connie E. Brown, along with Jason Cole, became the first two graduates from the new GIS concentration in the Department of Physical and Earth Sciences. Ms. Brown's son was able to view the ceremony live via web streaming from Brisbane, Australia where he is a senior at the University of Queensland.

Ms. Brown's two other children were in attendance at the ceremony. Her daughter is currently enrolled at JSU and her other son attends GSCC. Ms. Brown has demonstrated her commitment to life-long learning through home schooling her children and then having them move on to higher education in the public system just as she has.

Ms. Brown was especially appreciative of the opportunity to share an important milestone in her life with all her family, even though they were far apart. Ms. Brown expressed her appreciation for the live coverage through an e-mail to President Meehan. She wrote, "I wanted to let you know that it meant so much to both of us that he could 'attend' my graduation."
