Great Smoky Mountains Environmental Education and the Arts Workshop, 2005

15 December, 2004 — Join JSU Field Schools Coordinator, Renee Morrison, for a fun-filled, inspirational weekend dedicated to using the arts to teach environmental education deep in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Renee will be teaching a session entitled “The Nature of Drama: Imagine, Enact & Reflect through Creative Play.”

She describes the program as an opportunity to learn how to use creative drama to teach any subject. By harnessing the natural dramatic impulse of human nature in a student, you can foster personal growth and self-esteem, encourage teamwork, incorporate problem-solving exercises, promote empathy and strengthen language and communication skills.

Other concurrent sessions include storytelling, build your own dulcimer, create a personalized hiking staff, learn cultural folklore, adventures in nature journaling, and more.
  • Date of Event: 02/25 - 02/27/05
  • Length of Event: Three Days
  • Location of Event: Great Smoky Mountain National Park
