Biology Dept. Hosts ASM Meeting Oct. 20-21

20 October 2004 -- The JSU biology department is coordinating the 2004 southeastern branch meeting of the American Society for Microbiology October 21-21 on campus.

The department will have three keynote speakers for this year's meeting:
  • Waksman Speaker: Vickie Baselski, Ph.D.
    Professor, University of Tennessee Health Science Center

    Memphis, TN 38163

    Dr. Baselski will present "The Microbiology laboratory as a sentinel for bioterrorism: Protocol and practice." Background Information.

  • Dr. Ronald Luftig, the Treasurer for the National ASM organization will present his talk on "HIV Proteases: a key to viral survival and vaccine development," Background Information

  • Dr. Randall K. Buddington from Mississippi State University is not a microbiologist but has worked with gut microflora extensively as a gut physiologist. He responded to my request that he speak with: "I accept the offer and will do my best to explain how microbiologists can be friends with physiologists" Background Information
