JSUCO Concerto and Aria Competition Nov. 3

26 August 2004 -- The Jacksonville State University/Community Orchestra is pleased to announce the third annual JSUCO Concerto and Aria Competition, open to students ages 12-25 who reside in Northeast Alabama. Registered students of JSU shall be considered residents of Northeast Alabama. Auditions will be held on the campus of Jacksonville State University on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2004, from 6-9 p.m. in the Performance Center of Mason Hall.

Requirements for the competition are as follows:

  1. Students are to perform works or transcriptions of works by composers from the Baroque, Classical, or early Romantic periods. Maximum orchestration is pairs of winds horns, and trumpets, timpani and strings.

  2. All works should be available in "solo and orchestra" format. Consultation with the JSUCO Music Director is recommended before selecting repertoire.

  3. Instrumentalists shall perform one movement of a concerto, not to exceed 10 minutes in length.

  4. Vocalists may perform a combination of 2 selections, not to exceed 10 minutes in length.
All students should be prepared to audition with a piano accompanist. Two winners will be selected to perform their repertoire with the JSUCO on the orchestra's Spring Concert in April 2005.
