Theron Montgomery III To Have First Book Published

July 14, 2004 — Dr. Theron Montgomery III, a Jacksonville native and alumnus of Jacksonville State University, has had his first book of short stories accepted for publication by United Kingdom Artists in England. The book will also be promoted in the United States and will be titled The Procession and Other Stories. It is due out this spring.
 
“I’m grateful to see the book come out,” said Dr. Montgomery. “It represents more than ten years of writing and publishing short stories.”
 
Dr. Montgomery received his BA degree in English from Birmingham-Southern College in 1975 and his MA degree in English from JSU in 1977. He worked as a graduate assistant at JSU and was a reporter for the Anniston Star.  He later worked for the Gadsden Times and the Jacksonville News.  In 1982, he received a Ph.D. in creative writing from The Center For Writers at the University of Southern Mississippi.
 
Dr. Montgomery helped found the Alabama Literary Review in 1986, which he edited from 1986 to 1998.  >From 1994 to 1995, he served as a founding board member for the Alabama Writers' Forum and as a member of the Southern Literary Task Force for the National Endowment for the Arts.  From 1995 to 1998, he served \ as chief editor of the Alabama English Journal.
 
He teaches English and creative writing at Troy State University and is currently fiction editor for the international e-zine Blue Moon Review.
 
Dr. Montgomery and his wife, Diana, have seven-year-old twin sons, Taylor and Ethan. They live in Troy. He is the son of the former president of JSU, Dr. Theron Montgomery Jr. and his wife, Ada.
