Proposed Plans To Build 1400-acre Military Memorial Park

December 12, 2003 -- Sam Hurst, left, and Courtney Burkhalter, both of Centre, representatives of the U.S. Armed Forces Tribute Foundation, were on campus Friday to promote plans to build a 1400-acre military memorial park with "Walls of Valor" that will exhibit lists of living and deceased servicemen from all branches of the military. The park is being planned in Oglethorpe County, GA.  Mrs. Hurst is holding a sample of the tee shirts that will go to those who contribute toward the purchase and development of the land, which will feature "the world's tallest flag pole" at 550 feet tall, a Field of Flags representing all five branches of the military, and Paths of Allegiance. Ms. Burkhalter holds artist's renderings of the proposed park. For more information about the park, contact the organization at 256-549-1224 or at 1-800-311-4070. The Foundation's web address is www.ustributefoundation.us. (Photo by Al Harris, News Bureau)
