JSU Adult Wellness Exercise Aquatics Program Celebrates 20th Year with Halloween Party





November 5, 2003 -- The Adult Wellness Exercise (AWE) Aquatics Program, founded by Dr. Margaret Pope, Professor Emeriti of the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Department, celebrated its 20th year anniversary at the JSU Alumni House Pavilion. In keeping with the Halloween holiday, the AWE-some event was named “Pool Ghoul Party”. Ms. Eleanor Little, who has been active in the AWE aquatics program since its inception, was awarded a Certificate of Dedication from Dr. Jim McLaughlin, Director of the JSU Wellness Center. Also in attendance were Ms. Clara Davis and Mr. Opal Lovett who have also been in the aquatics program since its beginnings. Contests at the “Pool Ghoul Party” included best costume, best carved pumpkin and guessing the number of candy corn in a jar.

The contest winners included: Costume – 1st-Jimmy Jackson, 2nd-Eleanor Little, and 3rd-Jean Vickers; Pumpkin Carving – 1st-Gerre McNeal, 2nd-Judy Sexton, and 3rd-Shirley Cox; Candy Corn Guess – 1st-Jim Johnson, 2nd-Gerre McNeal, and 3rd-Shirley Cox. We would like to thank all coaches and the local businesses who donated about 30 door prizes for the event. A “Ghoully” good time was had by all!
