UPD Offers Bicycle Safety Course


September 11, 2003 -- Dr. Charlton Jones of Anniston, an instructor with the League of American Bicyclists, will teach a course on bicycle safety for Jacksonville State University students at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27 in the basement of Salls Hall (University Police Station) at the corner of Cole and Forney on campus.

Jones has over 50 years and 200,000 miles of bicycling experience. He was one of the first to be awarded the Bicycling Presidential Sports Award by President George Bush.

Dr. Jones' course will teach the correct way to balance and pedal, special handling skills used to avoid problems, the most frequent problems to avoid, and how to get more enjoyment from a bicycle. Bicycle selection and fit will also be discussed.
