JACKSONVILLE -- September 25, 2002 -- Jacksonville State University's Spirit Drum and Bugle Corp recently returned from their successful summer tour with a 10th place finish at the DCI 2002 World Championships in Madison, Wisconsin.

It was an exciting ending to the whirlwind tour that included 20 states and 31 shows. The summer touring ensemble was formerly known as the Spirit of Atlanta, but moved to JSU two years ago. The Corp is unique because of its association with a university as most corps are independently operated, non-profit organizations.

The 135 students from JSU, high schools and other colleges and universities compose the membership of the Spirit Corp. All are able to receive some form of college credit for the program. This summer's program was entitled "Darkness into Light" and was inspired by David R. Holsinger's Easter Symphony.

This past summer's tour lasted 53 days and traveled, by bus, over 10,000 miles.

Auditions for Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps from Jacksonville State University will take place on November 2 at the Bands Of America Atlanta Regional, on November 16 at the Bands of America Grand Nationals in Indianapolis, and on December 6-8 at Spirit's Open House Camp at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. A $35 audition fee is required. Audition applications can be obtained by emailing the Personnel Director at membership@spiritdrumcorps.org or by calling (256) 525-9279.
