JSU Earns A Rating from S&P

JACKSONVILLE -- August 30, 2002 -- Jacksonville State University recently achieved an A rating by Standard & Poor’s rating service.

“The A rating is one that all higher education institutions aspire to but few are able to achieve,” said JSU President William A. Meehan.

In official notification to Meehan, S&P officials said they view the “outlook of this rating over the intermediate to longer term as stable.”

The rating was sought by JSU in connection with a $15 million bond issue. The S&P team visited the campus last month.

According to S&P, an A rating has a “strong capacity to pay interest and repay principal although it is somewhat susceptible to the adverse effects of changes in circumstances and economic conditions….” S&P routinely noted that the rating “may be changed, suspended or withdrawn as a result of changes in, or unavailability of, information.”
