Dr. Joe Delap Named Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs


JACKSONVILLE -- August 13, 2002 -- Jacksonville State University recently welcomed Dr. Joe Delap as its new associate vice president for academic affairs.

Delap received his Bachelor of Arts in political science and French from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He earned a Master of Arts in German studies/culture studies from Indiana University as well as a master of arts in political science from the University of Arkansas. Delap received his Ph.D. from Indiana University in German studies/culture studies. Prior to joining JSU, Delap was associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Central Arkansas.

Delap brings an extensive background in teaching as well as administration. He speaks German and Dutch as well as French and has a reading knowledge of Latin. In July 2001, he was selected by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB), the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Department of State (ECA), and the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) for candidacy on the Fulbright Senior Specialists Roster. The Roster is a list of all approved candidates who are eligible to be matched with incoming program requests from overseas academic institutions for Fulbright Senior Specialists. As a candidate, Delap will be considered a potential match for program requests that require someone in his field with his expertise.

Dr. Delap resides in Jacksonville with his wife, Melanie, and two children.
