September 22 is First Day of Autumn

September 22nd is the first day of autumn this year. The hot days of summer are cooling off, and each day is shorter than the last. Trees will soon turn brilliant colors and it will be time to think about hot cocoa and warm coats in the morning. This friendly but hungry chipmunk shows off his stuffed cheeks as he was caught in action this weekend at a campground, where he accepted sunflower seeds right out of campers' hands. Rather than eat them on the spot, he made several trips to stuff his cheeks and scurry off to store the food for cold weather. (Photo by Mike Van De Walker)
