Teleconference To Address
What It Means To Be Human


JACKSONVILLE -- October 11, 2001 -- “What does it mean to be human?” is the question researchers from around the globe will be answering Monday, October 22 via an internet telecast downlinked to Jacksonville State University’s Houston Cole Library. During the webcast world renowned scientists will tackle issues of religion, ethics, and belief in a conference where they can share their reflections on the profound spiritual implications of their work. Students and faculty are invited to explore the possibilities and challenges posed at the interface of science and the human spiritual quest.

Featured speakers include Dr. Jane Goodall, Jane Goodall Institute; Dr. Paul Davies, Imperial College London; Dr. William Newsome, Stanford University; Dr. Manuela Veloso, Carnegie Mellon University; Dr. Terrence Deacon, Boston University and Dr. Thomas Odhiambo, African Academy of Sciences.

The Canterbury Club, JSU’s Episcopal/Lutheran Campus Ministry, and the Campus Ministry Association are co-sponsoring the webcast. And it will be aired live via satellite from Harvard University’s Memorial Chapel.

The teleconference will be downlinked to the eleventh floor of the Houston Cole Library at JSU, October 11, 1:30 - 8:00 p.m. You may attend the entire teleconference or any parts that fit into your schedule. Those attending will be able to ask questions via telephone or e-mail.

Light refreshments will be served at the supper hour.
