JACKSONVILLE -- August 30, 2001 -- Getting a four-year, baccalaureate degree has just gotten a bit less complicated for Gadsden State Community College students following a new co-admission partnership agreement signed Wednesday between Jacksonville State University and Gadsden State.

JSU President Bill Meehan and Gadsden State President Victor Ficker signed a letter of understanding that establishes a process by which students at Gadsden State will be seamlessly enrolled at JSU.

Although the Legislature had already passed an articulation agreement that mandates that students who complete an associate’s degree can transfer to state, four-year institutions as a juniors, the JSU and Gadsden State agreement takes that process further.

It is anticipated that by Spring, 2002, Gadsden State students will be eligible to continue on to JSU and will meet the entrance requirement for college transfer students at the respective institutions.

According to the letter of understanding, the partnership is driven by two goals: to provide the most efficient route to a college degree, and to increase degree completion rates at both institutions.
