Distinguished Faculty Award Honorees
JSU 2008 Faculty Awards Program


Corresponding with each academic year, distinguished faculty awards are presented to faculty based on their achievements in selective areas. The Ray and Ruth Ringer faculty award represents a new distinguished faculty award being presented this year. These awards along with this year's 2008 Distinguished Faculty honorees are cited below.

OUTSTANDING TEACHER AWARD - The Earlon and Betty McWhorter Outstanding Teacher Award, a University-sponsored, faculty administered program established in 1993, is designed to honor an outstanding faculty member for his/her efforts in teaching. The person selected for this honor receives an honorarium of $500 with a budget of $500 for expenses and a framed certificate displaying this accomplishment. Only full-time faculty members are eligible for this award.

THOMAS AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY EDUCATION/SERVICE - The Cleo and Carla Thomas Community Education and Service Award, a University-sponsored, faculty-administered program established in the Spring of 1999, is designed to honor an outstanding faculty member for his/her achievements in the area of education or service to the civic community in the Jacksonville State University area. the person selected for this honor will receive an honorarium of $500 with a budget of $500 for expenses, and framed certificate displaying this accomplishment. Only full-time faculty members are eligible for this award.

FACULTY SCHOLAR LECTURE AWARD - The Faculty Scholar Lecture Award, a University-sponsored, faculty-administered program established in the Spring of 1998, is designed to honor an outstanding faculty member for research, publication, or other original work in his or her field. The person selected for this honor will receive an honorarium of $500 with a budget of $500 for expenses. Only full-time faculty members are eligible for this award.

RAY AND RUTH RINGER FACULTY AWARD - The Ray and Ruth Ringer Faculty Award, a University-sponsored, faculty-administered program established in the Spring of 2008, is designed to honor faculty who excel in the areas of scholarship (including publications, presentations, etc.), community service from direct involvement in organizations, clubs, or charities, and exemplary classroom teaching. This award can only be received once during the faculty member's tenure at Jacksonville State University.
