Services Thursday for JSU Professor Emeritus William Dunaway

JACKSONVILLE — The funeral service for Dr. William Preston Dunaway, 71, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth B. McKenzie III and The Rev. Dr. Bob Ford officiating, K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be two nephews and nephews-in- law. Dr. Dunaway died Monday at Jacksonville Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Bennett Dunaway, of Jacksonville; his son, Robert Dunaway and his wife, Cora, of Jacksonville; his sister, Helen Morgan and her husband, Dwight, of Moulton; three brothers, Bob Dunaway and his wife, Marilyn, of Oxford, Jim Dunaway and his wife, Rita, of Saks, Jack Dunaway and his wife, Judy, of Oxford; and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Dunaway was preceded in death by his parents Robert Johnson Dunaway and Zylpa Preston Dunaway.

He was retired from Jacksonville State University as Full Professor Emeritus. He designed and had constructed the J.S.U. Computer Lab for teachers. He was distinguished R.O.T.C. graduate from J.S.U. in 2002.

He was a member of the Ala. Council for Computer Education and served as chairman of the Board of Jacksonville Housing Authority. He served on the Board of Directors for the Boy Scouts of America and was a Captain in the U.S. Army, 1959-1960. Dr. Dunaway enjoyed landscaping, gardening, reading, church and civic activities.
