The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment by Gov. Riley of Tuscaloosa Investment Adviser Thomas W. Dedrick Sr. to the Jacksonville State University Board of Trustees to fill the vacancy left by the late Gladys Carlisle.

Dedrick, 49, is a 1981 graduate of Morris Brown College in Atlanta, where he was an All-Conference football player. Signed by the Seattle Seahawks upon college graduation, the Greensboro native failed to make the team in 1982 and then embarked on his career in investment management. Dedrick has served as Vice President and Wealth Management Adviser for Merrill Lynch since 1982 acquiring more than 25 years of experience providing financial and wealth management advice and services.

Thomas is a CFP Certificant, a designation awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., Certified Financial Manager and is a member of the Investment Management Consultants Association. He is also a National Football League Players Association Registered Player Financial Advisor. He works with not-for-profit organizations, assists high net worth individuals, professional athletes and business owners by providing investment management consulting and financial planning services.

Thomas is a 1997 graduate of Leadership Tuscaloosa, and serves or has served on several other boards including the Red Cross, Girl Scouts, Theatre Tuscaloosa and The United Way.

Thomas recently completed a three-year term on Merrill Lynch’s National Advisory Counsel to Management for diversity. He has been active with youth athletics as a baseball and basketball coach and as a member of the Barnes YMCA Men’s Club.

“I am excited to be given an opportunity to serve,” Dedrick said of his appointment. “As a result of the years I’ve worked in the finance industry and also the number of boards I’ve served on over the years, hopefully I can bring some expertise to the position.”

Thomas and his wife Angelita have two sons ages sixteen and eighteen.

JSU President William Meehan said, "The University looks forward to having the opportunity to work with Mr. Dedrick in the future and to benefit from his years of experience in the finance industry and community service."

Dedrick's appointment is for a 12-year term.
