Light still Green for JSU

JACKSONVILLE — All systems are go at Jacksonville State to introduce James Green as its new basketball coach today.

Green agreed to become the Gamecocks' head coach Saturday. On Monday, officials at Mississippi Valley State said Green had not officially resigned his coaching position there and had an extension through 2012. There was no word out of Itta Bena on Tuesday.

JSU officials have scheduled a 3 p.m. news conference today.

Repeated attempts to reach Green since Saturday and Mississippi Valley interim athletic director Donald Ray Sims or JSU president Bill Meehan on Tuesday were unsuccessful. JSU athletic department officials have made players off limits to the media since the announcement of Green accepting the job, but the squad is expected to be on hand today.

Point guard DeAndre Bray served on the search committee.

Green will become the Gamecocks' third men's basketball coach since Bill Jones retired in 1998 and the first black head coach of any of their men's sports.
