Calhoun County Civic Chorale Spring Concert

Calhoun County Civic Chorale

On Sunday, April 20, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Anniston, the Calhoun County Civic Chorale will present its Spring Concert. The Chorale is under the direction of Dr. Patricia Corbin, Jacksonville State University Director of Choral Activities, and is accompanied by Christina D’Ambrosio.

The music for this concert deals with themes of love lost and found. Featured works are Johannes Brahms’ Nänie, a song of lament based on the poetry of Friedrich Schiller, and Daniel Pinkham’s Wedding Cantata, whose text is taken from the Song of Songs. Other works by David Dickau, Emma Lou Diemer, Gail Kubik, Marta Keen, Bob Chilcott and Josef Hadar will also be featured.

The Civic Chorale is an ensemble sponsored by the JSU David L. Walters Department of Music. Its membership includes people from the community, JSU faculty and JSU students. Each semester the Chorale performs masterworks of traditional choral repertoire. The Chorale rehearses every Monday evening during the fall and spring semesters in Mason Hall on the JSU campus. New members are always welcomed.

First United Methodist Church is located at 1400 Noble Street in Anniston. This concert is free and open to the public. For further information, please contact JSU Choral Activities (256) 782-5544.
