D. Shawn Giddy Named Chief of University Police

As the newly appointed Director of Public Safety, Chief Giddy will oversee a wide range of law enforcement and security functions for the campus community. 

The position is well suited for Chief Giddy who is a 20-year veteran of Jacksonville State University’s Police Department (UPD) and a graduate of JSU (‘86).  In fact, Chief Giddy began his career at UPD as a student employee and gradually worked his way up to the role of Chief that began on March 6, 2008. 

Chief Giddy will continue to build UPD’s reputation as one of the finest university public safety departments in the state and country through CALEA accreditation, collaborations with local, regional, and national public safety organizations, and professional growth for UPD staff.
