JSU to Perform Winner
of Southern Playwright's Competition

JSU Drama's next Mainstage production is the winner of 2007's Southern Playwright's Competition, OTHER PEOPLE'S DREAMS by Evan Guilford-Blake, March 27, 28, and 29 at 7 p.m. and March 30 at 2:00 p.m. OTHER PEOPLE'S DREAMS explores how one generation of a family must deal with the hopes and dreams of two sons as they try to make their ways in the world. When the eldest comes home for his brother's graduation, old conflicts rise anew.

A brief synopsis provided by the author provides insight about the conflicts existent in this award-winning play:

Other People's Dreams is the story of MARTIN ANDERSON, the owner of a construction business. Martin grew up as a black man in the South during the time when blacks were looked down on. Now, he has become a patriarch, well-meaning and ingenuous but with little vision beyond his own dream: That his sons come into and eventually take over the business he has built for them and become the pillars of the community he has tried to be. His elder son, however, left the business -- and his wife and young child -- to go to New York to become a writer. His younger son, a dreamer who is about to graduate from high school, is now the great hope. Martin's uncompromising attitude has also created conflict with his wife; and though he treats his 15 year old daughter like a princess, he is as blind to her potential as he is to his sons' desires.

Tickets are $9 for adults; $7 for JSU personnel and senior citizens; and $5 for students and military. Make your reservations now by phoning 256-782-5648.

The production will be held on the Mainstage of Ernest Stone Performing Arts Center, Corner of Church Avenue and 11th Street.
