Sponsors Kaleidoscope Event:
2008 Day Of Percussion

The David L. Walters Department of Music at Jacksonville State University is sponsoring a “Day of Percussion” on Saturday, 23  February 2008 in Mason Hall from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  A daylong series of clinics, master classes and performances are scheduled. 

Featured presenters include Mark Libby, Principal Percussion, Alabama Symphony Orchestra; John Lawless, Atlanta Opera, Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, and Atlanta Percussion Trio; and Michael Burritt, International Marimba Artist, Northwestern University Faculty; and JSU Mallett Ensemble with Clint Gillespie, Director.

At 4:30 p.m. the concluding event with be a concert by Michael Burritt, percussionist, composer, soloist, and educator. This will be a unique opportunity to hear this famous mallet percussionist in a solo recital.

Michael Burritt has performed and recorded with leading ensembles all over the world. In addition to his performing career, he directs the percussion program at Northwestern University School of Music. This performance will climax the 2008 JSU Day of Percussion.

A scheduled item in JSU's Kaleidoscope Festival of the Arts 2008, the event is free, and the public is welcome to attend.
