Hosting Sexual Responsibility Awareness Day

JSU Peer Educators and Counseling & Career Services will be hosting a full slate of events on Wednesday, February 13 for Sexual Responsibility Awareness Day.

From 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Peer Educators will be located at the 2nd floor TMB lobby with helpful information about sexual health.  Topics to be covered include HPV, HIV/AIDS, birth control, and sexually transmitted diseases. Tom Robertson, Cheaha-Coosa Valley HIV Prevention Coordinator, will be available for consultation.

Confidential HIV/AIDS OraQuick testing will be available from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on the 3rd floor of the TMB. Health Services Center will be administering this rapid-response test free of charge.

At 3:00 p.m., Todd Prater will be presenting a workshop on Healthy Relationships in room 303 TMB. Join us as our CCS Testing Coordinator shares his perspective of what is important in making our relationships work.

Ole Pete Key will be performing a special AIDS awareness concert at 5:00 PM in the Jack Hopper Dining Hall. The concert will be an interactive performance incorporating music, drama, and poetry in an effort to raise awareness and encourage low-risk behavior. While the concert is free, normal dining fees apply. For more information, visit Ole Pete Key’s website. JSU Housing and Residence Life, Sodexho Dining Services, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. have joined together with JSU Peer Educators and CCS to help make this event possible.

The purpose of Sexual Responsibility Awareness Day is to provide students with the information necessary to make good decisions about their sexual health.  JSU Peer Educators and CCS staff encourage the university community to attend as many events as possible as we promote sexual responsibility on Sexual Responsibility Awareness Day.

More information relating to the issues of  sexual health and responsibility is available through the Bacchus Network at smartersex.org.

Counseling and Career Services sponsors a variety of workshops and events designed to assist students in their career, education, and personal development. These programs are provided free of charge to members of the JSU community.
