The Foothills Piano Festival, an offering of both the Kaleidoscope Festival of the Arts and the David L. Walters Department of Music, opens tonight in the Mason Hall Performance Center with a jazz recital and presentation by Gary Motley, Director of Jazz Studies at Emory University in Atlanta. See Music at Emory University.

While getting the 2006 Emory Jazz Festival underway, Gary Motley said, "I try to give my students an appreciation for the art form of jazz and the people who developed this genre. Jazz is a uniquely American art form that celebrates the sum of life’s experiences.” Motley also stated he was exposed to jazz at an early age by his mother who loved to play gospel and classical music on the piano. He said his mother's goal was to give her children a love and appreciation for the arts. See Arts at Emory University.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 782-8258.
