JSU Drama Department Season Finale June 21-24
This is the final production of the JSU Drama Department’s 2006-2007 theatre season, June 21, 22, 23, at 7:00 p.m. and
June 24 at 2:00 p.m. This has been a season of unique and sometimes dysfunctional family and friend situations. Our last
season offering "Dearly Departed" is no different!
When the patriarch of the Turpin clan keels over dead in the first scene, the struggle to get him buried involves the whole family.
His widow wants to inscribe “mean and surly” on the tombstone. As the family tries to “pull together” for their father’s funeral,
their other problems keep overshadowing what should be a very solemn occasion. Amidst all the chaos, the Turpins turn for
comfort to their friends and neighbors, who themselves are an eccentric community of misfits who just manage to pull together
and help each other through their hours of need—and the funeral. According to the New York Daily News, "Dearly Departed"
is “…drop dead funny.”
