JSU Field Schools' Inner City Kids into Nature Camp



JSU's assistant director for Field Schools Renee Morrison shows off a king snake to some young campers.

This is a special nature camp developed by JSU Field Schools� Renee Morrison, organized through Hobson City Mayor�s Office, sponsored by Alabama Gas Corporation, Wachovia Bank Community Outreach, and USFS Shoal Creek District, to promote scientific exploration and discovery to inner city children.�

These nature camps for inner city kids have netted the Jacksonville State University Field Schools two national awards from the U.S. Forest Service: the Excellence in Interpretation Award in 2004 and the Nature Watch Award in 2005.

The camps help low-income minority youths discover natural places in Alabama and educate them on career options in science and math through a partnership between JSU and the Forest Service. The camps are free for participants with approved scholarship applications.
