CPA Journal Articles Garner Distinguished Awards

NEW YORK, NY, May 29, 2007 - The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) has announced the winners of the 2006 Max Block Award, which recognizes innovative and thought-provoking articles in the areas of technical analysis, informed comment and policy analysis published in the CPA Journal.

The CPA Journal is a peer-reviewed, technical publication aimed at public and private accounting practitioners, managers, educators, and other financial professionals. The editors receive hundreds of manuscripts annually. The CPA Journal’s editorial board and editorial review board members, representing dozens of professionals in all fields of practice and study, judged articles published in 2006. Awards were presented at the CPA Journal’s Editorial Board meeting on May 7, and the award winners were acknowledged at the Society’s 110th Annual Election Meeting & Dinner at the Hilton New York Hotel in New York City on May 17, 2007.

“The Max Block Distinguished Article Award, named for an early and influential managing editor, has been awarded each year since 1975,” said Mary-Jo Kranacher, Editor-in-Chief of the CPA Journal. “The award recognizes innovative and stimulating articles that are of current significance and which are likely to be of lasting value.”

Jeffrey S. Zanzig, Ph.D, CPA, Assistant Professor of Accounting, College of Commerce and Business Administration, Jacksonville State University, and Dale L. Flesher, Ph.D, CPA, Associate Dean, Patterson School of Accountancy of the University of Mississippi, received the award for best informed comment for their article “GAAP Requirements for Nonpublic Companies: New Views on Big GAAP Versus Little GAAP,” published in the May 2006 issue. The article addresses an AICPA study regarding the subject of “Big GAAP” versus “Little GAAP,” issued by the Private Company Financial Reporting Task Force in February 2005.
