in SIFE USA Regional Competition

Jacksonville State University’s SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) Team was named 1st Runner Up in the SIFE USA Regional Competition held April 5, 2007, in Atlanta, GA. The event is one of 17 SIFE USA Regional Competitions being held across the United States in March and April.

After presenting a report of their year-long community outreach projects to a panel of business leaders in Atlanta, the JSU SIFE team was named 1st Runner Up in the overall competition. The SIFE team members participating in the competition were Bryan Rozier, Michelle Weber, Jennifer Thomas, Melissa Price, Lamar Bradford, Shana Wilburn and Cana Motley. Dr. Rob Landry is JSU’s SIFE team faculty advisor.

SIFE is an international, non-profit organization active on more than 1,400 university campuses in 48 countries. SIFE teams create economic opportunities in their communities by organizing outreach projects that teach: market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success skills, and business ethics. Their projects are judged at competition on creativity, innovation, and effectiveness.

During this academic year, the Jacksonville State University SIFE team organized four projects in the Calhoun County community, including Bizworld which teaches elementary children the basic functions of business. The students made friendship bracelets and sold their products to children in other classes. They were in charge of manufacturing, financing, marketing, and selling their products.

The SIFE team is recruiting members for next year. Please contact any current SIFE team member, or Dr. Landry at 256-782-8419 or rlandry@jsu.edu. Membership is open to all majors, and academic credit may be earned for some majors.
