Visitation for Cecil L. Simpson at Gray Brown Service Mortuary



Cecil L. "C.L." Simpson

Visitation for Mr. Cecil L. "C.L." Simpson, age 82, of Jacksonville, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary. Mr. Simpson died Sunday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Webster Simpson, of Scotland; one son, Ian Simpson, of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter, Alison Simpson, of Birmingham; grandson, David Simpson Martinez, of Birmingham; a brother, Freeman Austin Simpson, of Jacksonville; three sisters, Emogene Smith, of Oxford, Evangeline Hansen, of Jacksonville and Janice Haynes, of Oxford.

Mr. Simpson was a native of Oxford and a resident of Jacksonville since 1965. He taught in the foreign language department at JSU. Mr. Simpson wrote articles for the Anniston Star as a freelance writer. He also wrote book criticisms and was a drama critic. He led two trips to Paris and to the South of France so students could learn to use the language. He was a lifelong supporter of the International House program founded by Dr. James Jones. Mr. Simpson was a WWII Navy veteran. He was an avid bird watcher, reader and gardener. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Gray Brown-Service Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
