26th Annual JSU Social Work Conference

The Jacksonville State University Social Work Program will sponsor its 26th Annual Social Work Conference on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at the Houston Cole Library.  The conference will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m.  This year’s conference will focus on Child Welfare and how Higher Education can contribute to enhanced services in Child Welfare agencies.  Another focus of the conference will be licensing of Social Work professionals and the need for graduates in social work to work in Child Welfare settings.

The Alabama Higher Education Consortium on Child Welfare will meet at the conference as well as the Alabama Task Force on Social Work Licensure Pass Rates.  There will also be workshops on Aging and Disability Resource Centers, Correctional and Judicial Initiatives for Substance Abuse Rehab, Legislative Advocacy, Case Management, and Resources for Parenting. 

Speakers from JSU will include  Dr. Rebecca Turner, Dr. Mark Fagan, and Dr. Jenny Savage.  Speakers from the University of Alabama will include  Dean J. P. Adams, Jr. and Ms. Barbara Chandler.  Speakers from the University of Southern Mississippi will include Dr. Tim Rehner and Dr. Mike Forster. 

Other speakers will be Mr. Randy Frost of the East Alabama Area Agency on Aging, Ms. Robin Mackey of Family LINKS, Ms. Gayle Lees Sandlin and Ms. Dollie Hambrick of the Alabama Department of Public Health, Ms. Mandy Andrews of the State of Alabama Department of Human Resources, Judge Laura Phillips of Calhoun County, Chief Deputy Matthew Wade of Calhoun County, Ms. Leigh Ann Murdock of the Cherokee, Etowah, DeKalb Mental Health Center, and Mr. Ron Gilbert of Alabama ARISE.
