JSU Concert Day Of Percussion

The David L. Walters Department of Music at Jacksonville State University is sponsoring a “Day of Percussion” on Saturday, 24 February 2007 in Mason Hall. The activities begin at 10:00 a.m. with performances by percussion ensembles from Hoover High School, Lassiter High School and the Calhoun County All-Star Percussion Ensemble.

A clinic will follow at 11:00 a.m. by Jack Bell who will discuss “Regimental Swing Style Drumming” with numerous demonstrations. Mr. Bell served for over 30 years as percussion coordinator at Georgia State University, was Principal Percussionist for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and has won numerous prizes and awards.

At 1:00 p.m. She-e Wu will present a clinic on mallet percussion. Currently she is Associate Professor of Percussion at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She is an internationally famous artist who appears frequently as recitalist, soloist and recording artist.

At 2:00 p.m. the JSU Percussion Ensemble will present a concert. This will be followed at 3:00 p.m. by another clinic by Jack Bell, “Developing Rhythmic Sensitivity”.

At 4:00 p.m. the concluding event with be a concert by She-e Wu. This will be a unique opportunity to hear this famous mallet percussionist in a solo recital.
