Jax State to Hire Notre Dame GA to Coach WRs

With recruiting in full swing and spring practice right around the corner, Jacksonville State head football coach Jack Crowe wasted little time filling the only coaching vacancy on his staff.

The Gamecocks are in the process of hiring Notre Dame graduate assistant Jeff Burrow as their new receivers coach. He replaces T.D. Woods, who left after one season earlier this month to join the new coaching staff at Tulane, where his wife is the senior women's administrator.

“We knew T.D. was short term,” Crowe said. “We moved pretty quick and had an idea of what we wanted to do.”

Burrow, 30, has spent the last two years with the Irish defense and handled quality control for coach Charlie Weis' program. He also spent two years as a graduate assistant at Minnesota and two years as the secondary and strength coach at Greenville (Ill.) College.

“He hasn't had a full-time position at the Division I level,” Crowe said, “but he's a lot like (former JSU quarterbacks coach Mike) Bobo. He's in that best-and-brightest category.
