Trustees Support Raising
Capital Campaign Goal
to $25 Million

During their quarterly meeting Monday, the Jacksonville State University Board of Trustees adopted a resolution supporting the JSU Foundation's decision to raise the capital campaign goal from $17.5 million to $25 million.

JSU recently announced the Foundation had exceeded its original goal and now has more than $22 million in pledges and contributions. The campaign concludes in 2008.

Among other business, the trustees:

-- approved buying Building 3170 at McClellan for $115,000 in support of JSU's Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI);

-- heard a report from President William A. Meehan that the Alabama Legislature approved a $42,714,403 appropriation for JSU's fiscal year 2007, which represents a 22.7 percent increase over the current fiscal year's budget, or $7,901,050;

-- gave the financial aid office authority to select recipients of the Marjorie E. Floyd Scholarship;

-- raised student housing fees by 10 percent to cover increased energy, cable and other costs;

-- increased the per-semester fee at the child development center to $500, with fees for short terms increasing to $180;

-- approved designating former trustee Bobby N. Kennamer as Trustee Emeritus and conferring on him the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters during commencement on April 28;

-- passed a resolution sending best wishes to fellow trustee Gladys Carlisle of Tuscaloosa, who is recuperating from an illness.

The trustees' next meeting will be on July 24.
