JSU Music Professor Emerita Presents Recital

Susie Francis Dempsey of Jacksonville presented her piano students in a spring recital on May 22 in Anniston at Parker Memorial Baptist Church Chapel. Special recognition was given to five students who received outstanding ratings in piano solo performance at the Alabama Music Teachers Association District Auditions. They were Kelsey Matthews, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Matthews; Lauren Ingram, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Russell Ingram; Kelly Ramzy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Ramzy and Anna Barrett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Barrett; and Nick Leonard , son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Leonard.

Ingram and Leonard proceeded to the state level where they both received outstanding ratings in performance. Leonard was also given further recognition as honorable mention. In addition, Ingram and Leonard received the coveted 2005-2006 Piano Student of the Year Award by Dr. Dempsey for their commitment to musical advancement in their piano study.

Other students performing in the recital included Daniel Davis, son of Dr. and Mrs. Randall Davis; Daniel Dempsey, son of Dr. David Dempsey; Drew Meehan, son of Dr. and Mrs. Bill Meehan; and Landon Shirey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Shirey. Former JSU student, Rick Robertson, wrote a piano composition that was performed by Dempsey.

Dempsey is a retired professor emerita of the department of music at JSU where she taught piano and related music courses from 1969 until 1996. She continues to maintain a piano studio where she teaches private lessons to all ages and group theory to adults.
