Accreditation Assessment Team
Invites Public Comment

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will arrive August 12, 2006 to examine all aspects of the Jacksonville State University Police Department's policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services, Chief Terry Schneider announced Thursday, June 15.

Verification by the team that the Jacksonville State University Police Department meets the Commission's state-of-the art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation--a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. The JSU Police Department was first accredited in 1997 and received their reaccreditation in 2000 and 2003.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public call-in session to be held on August 14, 2006. The assessors may be reached by dialing 1-256-591-8299 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A public forum will be held the same day at 3 p.m. on the 11th floor of Houston Cole Library on the JSU campus, Jacksonville, Alabama. Comments to the assessors may be given in person or called in by dialing 1-256-591-8299. Directions to the public forum are available by calling or visiting the JSU Police Department at (256)782-5050, Salls Hall on the JSU Campus, Jacksonville, Alabama.

Citizens or employees with comments about the University Police Department's ability to comply with standards for reaccreditation are encouraged to attend the public forum. Written comments may be sent to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 10306 Eaton Place, Suite 320, Fairfax, Virginia 22030-2201.
