CAST Presents First Annual Randy Awards Program

CAST (Community Actors Studio Theatre) celebrates successful season by honoring one old friend – and several new ones! CAST invites all its friends, benefactors, patrons and volunteers to help celebrate the success of its 2005-06 season by gathering at the first annual Randy Awards program June 24 at the Anniston Museum of Natural History, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Named in memory of the late Anniston playwright, Randy Hall, who was a founding member of CAST as well as the director of one of its first productions, the “Randy" awards have been created to recognize the hard work and talents of all the many volunteers who made the recent season such a success, says award show co-coordinator Tim Doyle.

Modeled after the “Tony” awards of the Broadway Theatre, the “Randys” will be presented to deserving honorees during a program that also includes entertainment and food and beverages. Just who has won an award will remain a surprise until the presentation, adds Doyle, as a panel of anonymous judges who attended each of last season’s shows has decided the winners for the night.

CAST’s recently completed season of "Snoopy," "Best Christmas Pageant Ever," "Second Samuel" and "Bus Stop" brought a record number of people to the local community theatre, according to artistic director Kimberley Dobbs, while the return of the popular production of "Boomers" proved a commercial success for the second year in a row. Season tickets for CAST’s 2006-07 season, which includes productions of "Oklahoma," "The Trip to Bountiful" and the female "Odd Couple," are on sale now.

Tickets for the Randy Awards are $20 per person and can be reserved by sending a check to CAST at PO Box 185, Anniston, Alabama 36202. The deadline for reservations is June 15th. The gathering will also serve as the CAST annual business meeting. For more information, please call the CAST box office at 820-2278 (CAST).
