Timothy J. Pitts Wins Award

Timothy J. Pitts, a Jacksonville State University visiting instructor of history, was awarded the Scharnagel Dissertation Fellowship by the History Department at Auburn University.

Pitts received his undergraduate degree at Berry College and his Master of Arts in history at Jacksonville State University. His graduate work so impressed Auburn University that he was awarded an Assistantship to work on his Ph.D. Two years ago he was invited to return to JSU as a visiting instructor. This award will enable him to devote the time necessary to finish his dissertation.

The award is named after Marguerite Scharnagel, a former student at Auburn, and is supported by a bequest from her estate.
