Dr. Roberts to Present Faculty Recital

James Roberts, trombone professor at Jacksonville State University since 1974, will present a recital of varied musical works with an international flavor on Wednesday evening, May 10, at 8:00 p.m. in the Mason Hall Performance Center on the JSU campus.  Joining Dr. Roberts for the performance will be pianist Christy D’Ambrosio, trumpeters Dr. John Merriman and Dr. Chip Crotts, and hornist Jeff Solomon.

Mrs. D’Ambrosio is an accomplished pianist and chamber musician.  A frequent performer, she appeared in a JSU solo recital in March, to critical acclaim.  Her musical training is from Miami University of Ohio and The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and she has recently established a Suzuki piano studio.

John Merriman and Chip Crotts are both trumpet professors at JSU, with doctoral degrees, respectively, from the University of Iowa and the University of Texas at Austin.  Additionally, Dr. Crotts is Director of Jazz Studies at JSU, and his ensembles have won numerous awards at festivals and competitions.

Jeff Solomon is Third and Associate Principal Horn in the Alabama Symphony, with degrees from Southern Methodist University and The Juilliard School.  He is also adjunct horn instructor at JSU

Together with Chris Hosmer, tubist and adjunct instructor in low brass at JSU, the four brass players appearing on the May 10 recital perform as the Jacksonville Brass Quintet, a faculty ensemble of the David L. Walters Department of Music.

The recital is free and the public is cordially invited.
