Alumnus Mike Bailey Named Superintendent

Jacksonville State University alumnus Mike Bailey has been named Etowah County school superintendent effective this fall.

Bailey is currently the associate superintendent of Etowah County and will enter the new position in September.

A December, 1970 graduate, Baily holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a major in physical education and a minor in history.

After teaching and coaching in the Gadsden city system for 17 years, Bailey become assistant principal of Hokes Bluff High School. After 10 years as principal at Hokes Bluff, he was named Etowah County assistant superintendent in 2000.

"I've worked with many good superintendents," said Bailey, "and I'm really looking forward to this [new position]."

Bailey's wife and daughter are also JSU alumni. Mrs. Debbie Bailey graduated with a degree in early childhood education. Their daughter, Leslie, graduated in 1998 with a degree in art.
