Phi Delta Kappa Awards Ceremony Announced

The Phi Delta Kappa Chapter (#0211) of  Jacksonville State University will observe its Spring Induction and Awards Ceremony on April 26, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. in the Stewart Memorial Room of the International House. 

Among the scheduled activities are the induction of new members and the election of officers for the 2006-2007 academic year.

In addition, Dr. John J. Ketterer, President of Phi Delta Kappa announced the 2006 graduating seniors being recognized for outstanding scholarship and for community service under the auspices of the local chapter, in furthering its goal of promoting future teachers and responsible citizenship.  

Ms. Elizabeth Clark of Rockmart, GA (Rockmart High School) and Ms. Ashley Gamble of Sylacauga, AL (Fayetteville High School) will each receive commemorative plaques and awards of $350 each as the winners of the regional scholarship sponsored by the local PDK.  Their applications were forwarded to the national offices of Phi Delta Kappa for consideration for further awards.

Receiving plaques and $100 checks will be the following students: 
  • Ms. Payal Mehta of Guntersville, Al (Guntersville High School)
  • Ms. Melissa Smith of Jacksonville, AL (Jacksonville High School),
  • and Ms. Lauren Tidmore of Ider, AL (Ider High School).
According to Dr. Ketterer, these are yearly awards and information about them is available each November.  This information is also mailed to area schools.

Phi Delta Kappa is planning a convocation of Future Teachers at the JSU Campus for October, 2006, and information will be available after September 1, 2006.  For more information, contact Dr. Ketterer (jkettere@jsu.edu).
