Nature Tyme

Tuesday, April 11, 2006, 9-10am

Nature-loving fun for pre-school children and parents, grandparents or adult caregivers! Learning is more fun when you share it with family. The Museum's early childhood program features story time, age appropriate activities, adventure time in the hands-on discovery room and live animals. Each month features a different science topic. Free with paid admission. Members are free. For more information call 256-237-6766.

 

Adventure Series: Winery & Cheese Hike

Saturday, April 15, 2006, 10am-5pm

White Oak Winery in the scenic Chocolocco Valley near White Plains, Alabama, is the setting for this fun spring outing. Naturalist Stephen Faughn leads a walk though the beautiful rhododendron garden, which will be full bloom. Participate in a wine tasting, and learn more about wine making and the natural history of growing grapes in Alabama. Then continue the day with a moderate hike and a delightful wine and cheese picnic. Must be 21 to participate. Reservations required by April 12, 2006 $25/member; $35/non-member. Adventure Series: Randolph County Granite Outcrop Hike

Saturday, April 22, 2006, 10am-5pm

Earth Day Event

This hike is a wonderful way to celebrate this very important environmental event. Botanist and Curator of Collections Dan Spaulding hosts this trip to the remarkable Almond Granite Outcrop in Randolph County, Alabama. The moon-like, rolling granite surface of this natural wonder comes alive with a vibrant palette of color and texture with an incredible variety of spring wildflowers, mosses and lichens. Learn about the flora of this most unique landscape and surrounding area. Reservations required by April 19, 2006. $25/members; $35/non-members. For more information call 256-237-6766.

Adventure Series: Trout Fishing Expedition

Thursday, May 4-Sunday, May 7, 2006

Join Naturalist Stephen Faughn for a "four day weekend" fishing trip to White River, Arkansas. This area is located in the beautiful Ozark Mountains and is known for world record Rainbow and Brown trout. Trip fee includes three nights in a mountain cabin, fishing permits, two meals and transportation. $350 per person; Deposit of $100 due to confirm reservation; paid in full by April 26, 2006. Music at the Museum: Musical Safari

Sunday, May 7, 2006, 3pm

The 2006 season of the Music at the Museum Series comes to a conclusion with this wonderful free concert. This Musical Safari Honors Recital features the piano students of the Northeast Alabama Music Teachers Association. For more information call 256-237-6766.

Garden & Home Tour and Picnic Lunch

Friday morning, May 12, 2006, 9am-1pm

Grand opening of the Zoo Garden

Tickets (limited to 100 guests): $30 non-member; $20 member. Drive yourself or reserve one of the limited van seats to be chauffeured from garden to garden in this fabulous tour of some of this area's lovely private gardens. A perennial favorite of Museum members and area residents alike, the plant sale promises some unique finds for the plant lover in your household. Friday's sale is for tour attendees only, but Saturday's sale is open to the public and features plants from Calhoun County Master Gardeners. For more information call 256-237-6766.

 

Adventure Series:Fish Fry and a Float

May 20, 2006, 9am-5pm

Rain date May 27, 2006

This leisurely six mile paddle and float down Terrapin Creek wouldn't be the same without a mid-stream fish fry picnic. Experienced Museum staff members will guide this trip and prepare lunch. Participants may choose a sit-on-top kayak or a two-person canoe to float down this scenic Alabama waterway. Reservations required by May 12, 2006. $35/member; $45/non-member.
