Melanie Ginn Wins AMSA Student Paper Competition

Sociology undergraduate Melanie Ginn won the Undergraduate Student Paper Competition of the Alabama-Mississippi Sociological Association (AMSA) held in Oxford, Mississippi, February 23 and 24. The title of the paper, "Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned That Life Imitates Art" was a symbolic interactionist analysis comparing the images found in the movie "Dr. Strangelove" with images found in speeches and press releases from the Bush administration.

Several colleges and universities from Alabama and Mississippi were represented at the 37th AMSA annual meeting, including Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi, Auburn University, the University of Alabama, Millsaps College, and Delta State University. The theme of this year's progam was "Social Inequality in our New Gilded Age." See AMSA Annual Meeting Program.
