Gimme a Beat:
Percussion Group to Perform as Part of JSU’s Annual Kaleidoscope Festival

Come Sunday, one group intends to redefine what it means to be a percussionist. And their name says it all — Chix with Stix. Formed two years ago, Chix with Stix is an all-female percussion group that will be performing as part of Jacksonville State University’s annual month-long Kaleidoscope Arts Festival.

The group was born out of coincidence. At the time, all six members were living and working in and around Atlanta. As freelance percussionists, they often ran into one another and often studied under the same teachers. Eventually, forming a group just made sense, explains Lisa Gillespie of Jacksonville, the only Chix with Stix member living locally. It was also a chance to show off a little girl-power to boot. See story at The Anniston Star's website: www.annistonstar.com.
