Softball Fan & Fun Day

By Randy Wilson
JSU News Bureau

Jacksonville State University's softball team will be hosting Fan & Fun Day on Sunday, February 12, from 2-4 p.m. at University Field.

JSU has been picked to win the 2006 Ohio Valley Conference softball crown by the league's coaches.

"We invite everyone, no matter what the age, to this day that will be filled with fun activities," said Head Coach Jana McGinnis. "This is a great way to kick off our season with the best fans in softball."

JSU returns the OVC's Player of the year as well as Pitcher of the Year—outfielder Maigin Alexander and starting pitcher Carly Kellam. Also returning for JSU is first-team All-OVC outfielder Daniela Pompano, who led the league in home runs, runs scored, and walks.

Also, JSU returns five position starters and its top three pitchers from a year ago. However, the team has six newcomers on the roster, and this will be an excellent opportunity to meet them as JSU prepares to defend its league regular season championship.

Games and fun activities for kids of all ages will be provided, including "Race Cocky" and throwing contest, to fun games for adults such as a home run derby.

"In the past we have had a great crowd," said McGinnis "This year when you leave you will say it was fun."

Admission is Free. Come and enjoy free cokes and popcorn. For more information, contact Misty Cassell at (256)-782-5536.
