Mr. Randy Harper Named Vice President for Information Technology


Mr. Randy Harper

Jacksonville State University's Randy Harper has been named vice president for information technology effective June 1, JSU President William A. Meehan has announced.

Mr. Harper, formerly executive director of information technology, said, "I am honored to have been selected to serve in this capacity. The administration, faculty, staff and students at JSU are among the best to be found anywhere. I look forward to leading the Information Technology team in innovative projects to enhance the role and quality of technology at Jacksonville State University."

According to President Meehan, "Our Division of Information Technology provides strategic direction for technology initiatives at JSU, and I'm pleased that we have such exceptional people as Mr. Harper within our ranks."

The Information Technology staff provides computing support for administrative systems and academic computing labs, personal computer diagnostic and repair services, network design and implementation support, and management of the university telephone system.

Mr. Harper holds a B.S. degree from JSU with a major in mathematics and a minor in physics. He earned his Master of Business Administration degree from JSU in 1975.

Before coming to JSU in 1976, he worked on the NASA Apollo and Skylab projects as a computer analyst for General Electric in Huntsville and as a programmer and analyst for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Gadsden. He has served in a variety of technology support and administrative positions at JSU, including programmer, analyst, manager, director, and executive director.

According to Mr. Harper, "The university is making significant and continuing investments to ensure that our students are provided with state-of-the-art technology. We are committed to initiatives that will ensure that we have quality academic and administrative computing systems and the underlying telecommunication infrastructure. I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of these efforts and to promote excellence in technology at JSU."
